Daina Bleiere

Daina Bleiere – Dr.hist., researcher at the Latvian University Institute of the History of Latvia. In 2005-2018 Associate Professor at the Riga Stradins University Political Science Department of the Faculty of European Studies. Published about 80 articles on the history of Latvia, 1940-1941 and 1944-1991, as well as about internal and foreign policies of Latvia after the restoration of independence. Published a book “Life in the Soviet Latvia” (in Russian, 2015, Latvian edition under different title in 2012). Participated in several collaborative international projects, i.e. the book ed. by Michael Loader, Siobhán Hearne, and Matthew Kott “Defining Latvia: Recent Explorations in History, Culture, and Politics”(CEU Press, 2022) and the book ed. by Li Bennich-Björkman and Saulius Grybkauskas “Moscow and the Non-Russian Republics in the Soviet Union: Nomenklatura, Intelligentsia, and Centre-Periphery Relations” (Routledge, 2022). A member of editorial board, and author of articles in the project of the National Encyclopaedia of Latvia (https://enciklopedija.lv/ ).
Main interests: process of Sovietisation of Latvia, development of the Soviet nomenklatura in Latvia, social and cultural policies of the Soviet power in Latvia, foreign and security politics of Latvia.
